Beginning 1

This is divided into two 4 week sections, A & B.  Stuudents can take these sections in either order.  Both must be completed (or student must have equivalent experience and instructors permission) prior to enrolling in Beginning 2.

Beg. A

This class introduces the footwork and patterns of the 8-count basics, the foundation of Lindy Hop: swingout from closed and open positions, lindy circle, side-by-side Charleston, and jockey.

Beg. B

This class introduces the footwork and patterns of the 6-count basics.  The Lindy uses both 8 & 6 count patterns, therefore this class is necessary to progress in Lindy classes. However, it is also a great place for you to quickly and easily introduce yourself to swing dancing and be able to have fun on the floor. We will cover a variety of turns including the tuck turn, follower’s inside turn, leader’s pass-off turn, and others. We will also cover the jig kicks.

Beginning 2

This class begins with a quick review of all the basics from Beg. A & B and then works on the transitions between 6-count and 8-count patterns to smoothly switch between the two.  We will then build the basic Lindy repertoire and add variations to the basics.  Students will begin to develop strong lead/follow skills and proper technique.

Int. A/B/C/D

The Intermediate classes may be taken in any order. Each class builds repertoire while focusing on technique and partnering skills and requires a strong foundation in the basics.  Each class will include vaiations of the swingout (patterns and/or footwork), tuck turn, cross-hand leads and Charleston.  These classes are distinct, and we recommend taking each Intermediate class (A, B, C, and D) before proceeding to advanced Lindy.

Advanced

This class will challenge students with more complex patterns and footwork.  It will move at a faster pace using a wider range of tempos.  With a continuing emphasis on connection and basic technique, students will be encouraged to explore musicality and improvisation.

Special Topics

We offer a variety of 4 week classes, mainly for the intermediate through advanced levels but some are open to all levels.  Topics include jazz steps, trick moves, technique and styling, partner Charlestons, aerials and many more. We welcome suggestions for upcoming sessions.

Performance Class

This class will help you improve the aesthetics of your dancing, whether you want to compete, perform, enter jam circles, or just show off for friends. The first four weeks will focus on learning a 32-bar chorus and using that as the basis for working on general performance technique. The last four weeks we will focus on individual solos, with the last week combining the solos with the chorus to have a complete routine. You may either take the first four weeks alone, or all eight weeks. At the end of the eight weeks, everyone will have the option of performing at a Thursday night dance.  This class is geared toward intermediate/advanced dancersand a partner is required.
